Kaspersky Lab scores highest in all three categories

2014/05/27 by admin

Kaspersky Lab scores highest in all three categories of Q1 Dennis Technology Labs Anti-Malware Tests

Kaspersky Lab is pleased to announce that the company’s products received the highest AAA rating in all three of Dennis Technology Labs’ test categories – Home Anti-Virus Protection, Small Business Anti-Virus Protection and Enterprise Anti-Virus Protection – in the first quarter of 2014.

Testing by Dennis Technology Labs takes place in a specially created lab, assessing the capabilities of various antivirus solutions in conditions that are as realistic as possible. Testing involves an analysis of how the products react to the very latest live threats. Two aspects were assessed in all three categories: Protection Rating, which showed how well the products handled malware, and Legitimate Software Rating, which showed how effectively they handled non-malicious programs. The ideal anti-malware suite was expected to block all threats and allow all legitimate programs. Products scored points for successfully blocking threats, but lost points for any false positives. The overall scores were converted into one of the following ratings: AAA, AA, A or B.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 was the top performer in the Home Anti-Virus Protection category, correctly identifying all the legitimate programs, blocking 98% of the malware and neutralizing the remaining 2%. The Kaspersky Lab solution received the highest number of points of all the participants and was awarded an AAA rating.

In the Small Business Anti-Virus Protection category Kaspersky Small Office Security also failed to trigger a single false positive, blocking 94% of threats and neutralizing another 5% – a performance that resulted in another AAA rating.

Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business also turned in an excellent performance in the Enterprise Anti-Virus Protection category, blocking 94% of threats and neutralizing another 3% to earn yet another AAA rating for Kaspersky Lab.

“A wealth of experience in the field of cyber security and industry-proven technology allow Kaspersky Lab to create state-of-the-art products for IT infrastructures of all sizes. It means we can offer our customers a wide range of reliable solutions equally capable of securing a home computer or a major corporation,” commented Oleg Ishanov, Anti-Malware Research Director at Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Lab products also received top AAA ratings in all three categories of Dennis Technology Labs’ previous round of Anti-Malware Tests conducted from October to December 2013. More details about recent test results and testing methodology can be found on the Dennis Technology Labs website.

Kaspersky Lab patents method for detecting malware that conceals its presence in the system

2014/04/09 by admin

Kaspersky Lab has obtained a patent for a method of detecting malware that has been masked by rootkits – special programs capable of altering the outcomes of system functions. Patent no. 8677492 issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office describes the operation of a security solution with a special module that duplicates some functions of the operating system’s kernel, so the security solution has reliable information even if the OS is infected with a rootkit.

Cybercriminals use rootkits to prevent security solutions detecting malicious programs such as Trojans. To do this a rootkit masquerades as a legal driver, integrates with the OS kernel, intercepts system function calls from applications and modifies the results of their operation, deleting any references to files and processes related to the Trojan. This means the presence of malicious code can be masked – a dangerous program becomes invisible to the user and to other applications.

The Heartbleed bug

2014/04/09 by admin

Heartbleed is a catastrophic bug in OpenSSL:

“The Heartbleed bug allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. This compromises the secret keys used to identify the service providers and to encrypt the traffic, the names and passwords of the users and the actual content. This allows attackers to eavesdrop communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users.

Detecting Advanced Persistent Threats with Enterprise Snare Agents

2014/04/03 by admin

Advanced Persistent Threats, better known as APT’s, are gaining a lot of media attention lately.

Unlike traditional malware, these are stealthy, performing various sequences of activities to avoid detection. An APT is a targeted attack that seeks to harvest critical information, such as proprietary data, source code, or operational plans. click here

Whitepaper by Sophos - Advanced Persistent Threats

2014/03/24 by admin

Network security is all about ensuring you close the holes an attacker can get through. But you also need measures in place to detect the signs of an attack in progress to stop it from unfolding. In this paper we’ll explain how a multi-faceted approach to protect against APTs including layers of defense can reduce the risk of attacks.
