Email Virus Detection/Protection

A virus is a program designed to spread by first infecting executable files or system files of a hard drive and then copying itself. Viruses can operate without the knowledge of the user.

The destructiveness of viruses have been well documented, costing organizations hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost productivity, having to replace hardware, etc. By having a layer of virus detection/protection and the server level, will reduce the likelihood of a user inadvertently launching a virus. Using a combination of both server and desktop antivirus programs, especially if your organization is prone to viruses, is the best protection. Educating your employees is also necessary (refer to security policy and procedure)
